| Présentation: | It's the first day of 2008, which seems as good a time as any to update this profile thingy. I worked out that I've viewed about 12,000 photos, hardly any compared to some! It's more than 2 years since I joined TE and hardly a day has gone by when I didn't at least think about it, even if circumstances prevented me from switching on the computer and watching the gallery pages float past with so many tantalising pictures of other worlds. There must be a lot of other members who have found from time to time, or even every day, as in my case, that this addiction can place a strain on one's relations with others! It can bring frustration and exasperation, loud cursing and, so far, hollow threats. Oh well, that's the price one has to pay for one's favourite 2 o'clock in the morning pastime. As I said in my previous intro, everyone should be so lucky to have something like TE with which to be joined at the hip. Anyway, I think in these years of being a Trek-er - the three cameras bought since joining, the several trips made overseas and the vast number of hours hunched over the screen - I've started to learn a little more about photography and the world from all the friends I've made. Like many on this site, I had always been quite keen on photography in the days of film but had never taken it further than shooting holiday photos and later going down to the shops to get the film developed. Photo albums got a good viewing after a trip but then gathered dust at the top of a cupboard. Computers, the internet, and digital cameras have made TE possible and renewed and intensified an interest that had often faded away. I seem to have become more of a landscape photographer than anything else, but I'm not sure why. That DSLR I bought a year ago, perhaps, and the circular polariser that practically lives on the lens - I keep forgetting to remove it, but what the hell. Having it made me obsessed with blue and cloudy skies! Never had one before. I suppose it will wear off, but what will happen when I get a ND filter? Thanks to all the friends who keep coming back to have a look at my photos; their own photos have given me so many ideas. And I always get a kick out of being the first person to write a critique on a new member's first upload. And special thanks to daddo (Klaudio Dadich), my good friend and former colleague, who introduced me to TE, and with whom I have spent hours and hours over strong coffee or sushi rolls discussing some of the great pleasures and irritations of TE, laughing and cursing both. | |
