- Intro
- My name is Isaac Majak and I was born in a small village in South SUdan called Majok-Chediop. Like all the other "Lost Boys of Sudan" I was separated from my village and family when I was very young - five years old in my case. My village was destroyed and my father was killed. I had to run for my life. Like thousands of other kids I made my way on foot to Ethiopia where I lived in a refugee camp for several years.
When the situation in Ethiopia changed with it's own civil war, I fled the new dangers, once again on foot, traveling in a long line of terrified and destitute children. Like ants marching endlessly some of us made it to northern Kenya where we once again formed a refugee camp - this one called Kakuma. Here is where I lived until I was selected to be one of the lucky few who were resettled in the United States.
In 2005 I made a trip to Africa to reunite with my Mom and other family members. Amazingly my Mom survived the tradedy and struggles of the past two decades. I had not seen any of my family in Africa since I was separated from them in 1987.
