Hi Alfred, Thanks for your kind critique and advice! I actually made a couple of experimental 5 minute exposures to make sure I was letting enough light in and at ISO 100 it just didn't seem to be exposing enough for a photo. Bear in mind I've actually had to increase the exposure by +1.5EV post processing for it to be this bright, and i've increased the contrast by +150 in photoshop to bring the stars out.
