Peter, You may turn your curiosity indicator down again. It's not such a spectacular reason; I've never been to Australia. You're almost on the totally other side of the earth. Although I've had many friends going there - mostly young folks - and maybe some of them stayed at the Narrabeen Sands Hotel, I don't know. But if your fascination lies in all things that fly, mine is in maps. I'm able to study them for hours. Not to mention Google Earth: it's like flying and traveling and yet staying at home at the same time. So looking at your intro page I noticed that you live at Narrabeen - which was not known to me - and I misread the location to be at the Northern Beaches of Australia. Of course I had to look up the location in Google Earth and realized that it's a suburb(?) to Sydney. And zooming in on the area between the lake and the sea I spotted the hotel symbol (always checking hotels) and enjoyed the name: Narrabeen Sands Hotel. That's why and how. Then I needed a simile when trying to explain how fantastic the future in Air Traffic Control might be. I remember joking about "sitting in a hotel room in Japan, directing traffic into Newark" when we first heard about the ADS-B technology some ten years ago. But now, for you and me, I thought more "personal" references would be appropriate. So I simply took the closest larger airport in my vicinity (Copenhagen Airport, Denmark) and a hotel in your vicinity (Sydney, Australia), but then I remembered the Narrabeen Sands Hotel. And why not a suite, when we don't have to pay for it. It was as simple as that. But maybe I should have checked with Google Street View first, because it seems most of the hotel area presently is a construction site...? Best regards, Kaj P.S: The site in Sweden is up and running again. You should be able to find similar radar sites for your part of the world as well.
