Mut is a quiet rural district at the foot of the Sertavul Pass on the road over the Taurus Mountains from Ankara and Konya to the Mediterranean coast at Anamur or Silifke. The area has probably been inhabited since the time of the Hittites (2000 BC), and was later part of ancient Cilicia, eventually part of the Roman Empire.

The River Goksu is the most important one in the province of Icel, originating from two branches of the Central Toros (Taurus) mountain range. The southern branch starts at Geyik Mountains, and the other at Haydar Mountains, and unite to the south of Mut to form the Goksu. The 260 km long river forms a delta between Tasucu and Silifke as it flows into the Mediterranean.
Gelibolu (Gallipoli) (10 photos) by Seref Halicioglu (WepWaWet)

This old seaside town was once known as Gallipoli, as it still is in English and the town gave its name to both the peninsula and the campaign of 1915. However, for Turks, the Gallipoli Campaign is known as the Canakkale War. From the wharf in the centre of the town, ferries run across the Dardanelles to Lapseki on the Asian shore.
