The lost raiders ...
taken at the Escalade celebration last year.

For the people of Geneva the Escalade is the symbol of their independence. The escalade (literally : « scaling the walls ») marks the final attempt in a series of assaults mounted throughout the 16th century by Savoy which wanted to annex Geneva as its capital north of the Alps.

Every year the commemoration of the victory of the Genevans on invading Savoyan troops takes place at old town and schools. For this year the event take place starting this friday. The history and the program can be found here[click].

Between the programs, these genevans roaming the old town streets - which in some parts now are actually shopping centers, full of people on saturday doing christmas shopping. so here they are, ... look like lost, placed in the wrong century, both sides shocked :D

But I hope I can be at old town again this week end. Every year we try to see this event. here are some photos I took last years, it certainly an event I won't miss :)
