Photographer’s Note

Le fleuve Tonlé Bassac ressemblait à une rivière de boue.
Brutalement,le ciel devenait noir comme de l'encre.
Le vent commençait à se lever.
Cela n'annonçait rien de bon.
Je savais que le grain arrivait. Qu'il ne faudrait pas plus de 5 minutes pour que tombent des trombes d'eau.
Il fallait vite trouver un abris.
Rentrer au port.
Ou sortir les vestes de plastique.

The river Tonlé Bassac resembled a mud river. Brutally, the sky became black like ink.
The wind started to rise.
That wasn't a good announced.
I knew that the grain arrived.
That one would not have more than 5 minutes before the waterspout.
Shelters had quickly to be found.
To return to the port.
Or to put the plactic jackets.

Est ce la couleur réelle de l'eau après les pluies de mousson ? C'est extraordinaire ! Et les contrastes , sous cette belle lumière , avec le ciel et le bateau coloré sont magnifiques .

Trés joli ciel, avec beaucoup de nuances, ce qui marque un contraste flagrant avec cette rivière trés boueuse et plutôt monochrome. Le bateau est lui assez pitoresque dans son genre.

Le ciel est couvert et pourtant, les nuages ont laissé passer de la lumière pour éclairer le bateau.
Celui-ci semble vouloir les narguer. Il est prêt à braver les éléments!

Hi Bertrand, great shot. I can imagine the torrent of rain about to fall from the, well captured, and very threatening sky. I wonder though about the colour of the water, perhaps the reds are a little too saturated? cheers, Steve

Bonjour Bertrand,

Ca fait un moment que je pense a faire un tour au Cambodge, mais avec des photos comme celle la, plus qu une idée, ca va devenir une realisation.
Exactement le type de scene que j aime voir: une ciel lourd qui fait ressortir encore plus les couleurs briques de la riviere.
J espere que vous ne vous etes pas trop fait trempé.

le ciel orageux est splendide,il laisse pourtant passer suffisemment de lumière pour éclairer l'eau rougeâtre et donner ainsi un magnifique contraste!Le bateau exotique bénéficie lui aussi de cette lumière,ce qui le met bien en valeur!C'est incroyable ce que ce fleuve semble large,est-ce une illusion ou la réalité?

L'opposition est forte entre les couleurs et en fait une merveilleuse photo mais il faudrait rentrer au plus tôt avant la pluie. La formation des nuages est très intéressante et le bateau est bien mis en valeur.

This image is burned in my mind: the incredible detail of that huge cloud bank with yet a touch of blue remaining; the contrast of the muddy red river and that pristine summery boat heading for the storm. The upper deck seems deserted as the passengers huddle under the roof.

Wild shot, full of atmosphere...I was sure I was looking at a scene from Rio Negro...Good composition with 2/3 of the skies dominanting the scene, with the both located at the right side, leaving space for future "motion" ...The color's contrast makes a lot of this shot.

Wow, I love the colours and contrast in this, Bertrand, and you can just feel the wind picking up and the rain starting to roll in. The monsoon season is a great time to be the SE Asia for photographers - as long as you can keep your gear dry :) The sharpness of the boat is outstanding.

Bonjeur Bertrand, An excellent clear composition showing the view of this boat crossing the silty river. The threatening clouds add a lot of character to this shot. It is similar to the Mekong delta area also but the colour of the water a little different. TFS. Murray.

La lumière est superbe faisant ressortir les couleurs si intenses. Le bateau a beaucoup de charme. Ce n'est pas la seule rivière au monde qui ressemble à la boue. La rivière Yarra à Melbourne est brune la plupart du temps.

Trés impressionnante celle-ci, surtout avec ce contraste de lumière ainsi que de couleur avec cette rivière à la teinte surprenante... Le petit beateau coloré semble si frêle face à ces imposants nuages sombres, l'effet est trés réussi.
