Photographer’s Note

These monks from different generations felt like a real photographic opportunity, right after an early visit of Bakong temple that wasn't very profitable in terms of images.

Because this temple is far more remote than the other temples of Angkor, there is very few visitors and therefore, monks doesn't perpetually try to escape the flashes of too much enthusiastic tourists.

The Bakong is the first real pyramidal shaped temple built in Cambodia to take the form which researchers have come to call "temple mountain".

il n'y a pas si longtemps que ça que je suis allé visiter Angkor et ta photo me rappelle des souvenirs. Très chouette cette compo avec les trois moines, la lumière est en plus très belle. J'aurai bien aimé faire des photos comme celle-ci mais je n'ai pas osé pointer mon appareil vers eux...

Hello André,

Cette image me fait penser à une pochette de CD pour un groupe de musique ! Ne te vexe pas mais c'est l'effet que me procure l'image. Maintenant, ne te méprend pas, cette image est très belle. Autant du point de vue de la lumière que de la composition. Je sens une réelle recherche du placement des moines dans cette image.
Les couleurs des toges avec celles des pierres de l'arrière plan permettent d'uniformiser les teintes.
Je me demande si je n'aurais pas légèrement obscurci la partie de ciel qui se trouve dans le coin haut à gauche !

Is this how they were sitting or did you arrange them? Whichever it was, it is an excellent arrangement with the necessary threesome in a good triangle. Also on a compositional note, the doorway is framing the palms, which works well. The light isn't too harsh, or if it was you have done an excellent job with it. Well done

Que voilà un endroit où j'aimerais bien aller. Le placement de ces trois moines me semble presque avoir été organisé. Celui qui est derrière ferme malheureusement un peu trop les yeux. Dans l'image, je trouve que la pierre du tout premier plan plan prend un peu trop de place, et le ciel est un brin mou... Je te propose donc un WS avec un recadrage carré...

la disposition des moines en triangles et hiérarchisée et certainement la clé de cette photo qui a aussi de tres belles couleurs dû a la lumiere parfaitement maîtrisée.

A rendition reducing definition is interesting though it brings a sence of dusty and noisy a little. Very well framed in the beautiful light.

I was scratching my head regarding your title, till it appeared to me you might me talking about the colours of their robes ;-)..sometimes doing 'banking' makes the brain quite dull in matters of fine art & language I guess!
Like the arrangement of the threesome of three generations, in a triangle, all facing you, with contrasting expressions, though all seem to be pleased...use of the diagonal perpsetive & the gate behind also makes it delightful. Another fine work, my friend!

You well captured these three monks of different generations in such a position that they're building a photographic triangle here. Strong walls of the temple act as a very appropriate background for them.
Colors are nice and sharpness is at its best.

Hi Andre,
This looks very much like a staged or meticulously planned shot. It may not be. Sometimes, in order to get the kind of shot you wanted you have to be patient and wait for the right moment, or you arrange it. This turned out great. I like the positions of the three monks at different distance from you. The setting is perfect for this shot. Great depth of Field, all of them are nice and sharp. The colors of their robs stand out well against the age old stones. I would have prefer that the boy closest to you not looking at the camera. It would have give it more casual shot than a pose. Regardless, this is wonderful, I feel like I am looking at the advertisement on the magazine on Thai Airways featuring Cambodia.

Et je ne résiste pas à celle-ci. Tu as capté ici trois expressions différentes au travers des ces trois moines. J'aime celle du jeune homme sur la droite, de même que les jolies couleurs de leurs tenues qui contrastent à merveille sur les pierres.
A la façon dont les trois moines sont installés, ils forment un triangle, qui me donne l'impression de faire rebondir mon regard de l'un à l'autre.
