Photographer’s Note

It was terribly foggy, rainy and cold during my 4 days in Varanasi, so very few people were brave enough to get into the Ganges to have there daily ritual.

So instead of shooting people in the water, I scouted the city through and through many times, trying to find interesting scene and faces; I was happy when I've met this woman with beautiful clothing, not making a single move when I ask her to make a shot.

Hi Andre,
Well she is blending in perfectly with her enviroment, all the brown tones go so well together. If the weather was miserable then her mood seems to match this, she looks quite sad or maybe just deep in her thoughts. A perfectly sharp portrait on the ghat stairs as she stares ;o)

Hello Andre,
I don't know why but I am very impressed by the brownish-ochreous colour gamma of this image! Besides, I consider the POV very good, with the woman slightly off centre.
How very interesting people can be!... she didn't even move at your request to take her photo? Maybe she is far too philosophic? In any case, this is one of those thought-provoking portraits which I always enjoy :)

C'est fou que ce peuple aime bien se faire photographier, en France je risque d'avoir des problèmes.
L'image est bien captée, la femme adopte une attitude naturelle très expressive.
Je reconnais que je ne possède pas le don de faire de telles images.
J'apprécie beaucoup.

A very good portrait shot of the local woman, she seemed to be deep in thought, somewhere in her own world, I like the soothing and soft tone, colors and very gentle light. The light and subdue background is not competing with your main subject.
