Photographer’s Note
Chan Chhaya Pavilion - Royal Palace
Although the city is known for its traditional Khmer and French influenced architecture, there’s not a lot of grandiose buildings to see, other than the Royal Palace, some colonial villas along tree-lined boulevards and the impressive Art Deco-Stalin style covered market.
Nevertheless, a visit to Cambodia would be uncomplete without a two-days visit to the capital, despite the city have one of the worst reputation for gun shooting in Asia.
Statistics mention 5 to 10 deaths per month, but it’s much more than that, according to the owner of the auberge where I stayed. This is not the place to walk by night with your big lens and although I’m never afraid to travel alone and move around by night wherever I am, common sense and my little finger told me to stay away from the streets of Phnom Penh after dark...
The most funny thing I have ever see, was inside a new shopping mall, where guardians are hired to show people how to use escalators!... Cambodians have no clue how to use them for the first time, so some of them back up, some kneel down and others are just amused to see it working...

Amicalement,

Great photo Andre. Just the way I like it. A great architectural landmark, framed in its environment, captured in a real 3D way, with a perfect light and exposure. Colors are superb. Don't have really much more to say. It's perfect!

Hi Andre,
this is a very nice capture of the royal palace. Well done with great exposure here. It is not easy to take pictures in the strong day light. You managed well.
Greeting from Cambodia

Hi Andre,
Colours, detail and sharpness are excellent. Very clever to put some people in it, gives good scaling and reall adds something to the scenery...makes it more alive.
What do i see in the right top corner in the blue...lines of blue tones which is probably caused by compression? Do you work in 16 bit?
When i have them in my own pictures it's mostly caused by the polarizer and the limitations by the dynamaic range of the camera.
Nevertheless a picture i like...very good.
Regards, Henk

Hello Andre,
A beautiful composition and gorgeous colors of this old royal palace. The people riding their bicycles and Vespas add much to the composition. Learning how to use escalators? Amazing! Excellent photography as usual!

Lots of distortion but still a great photo. Nice color and good composition. I think it is lacking in sharpness, for you that is. I am probably thinking this about the sharpness because:
1) I have a very high expectation of your photos. Higher than most people on the site (it's a good thing)
2)the bushes in front are a bit out of focus, larger f stop the reason.
Still a great photo.

Joss

Anfdre,
Beautiful picture and interesting note. When I went there there wre no traffic lights and no shopping malls. Although I could see kids carrying AK-47 taller then them, I felt no direct threat to me. Maybe I was just lucky.
The colours at mid day of your picture are amazing.
