Photographer’s Note

As photographers, we enjoy contrasts, a photo looks always more attractive when there are color or situation contrasts on it.

This post introduces the weather contrast, as today marks the arrival of winter snow in Europe on a wide scale, I have chosen to post a warm beach photo ;-)

We're here on the east cost of Sardegna close to Cala Gonone, a well known resort in the Orosei gulf. The beach just to the south of this city is not supposed to be the most spectacular, and most tourists usually skip it, taking shuttle boats to reach the more distant south seas looking beaches. I do not entirely agree with them as in the early morning hours this beach gets a spectacular coloring thanks to the low rising sun.

This is the view I present you today, where I chose to exclude the sun (on the right) to get a better display of the sand color. On the hill in the background you can see the city of Cala Gonone.

i went there in 70's, many summers....i remember a wonderful beach, a beautiful tiny village and a great restaurant some km from the sea at Su Cologone.

7h19 du mat...faut être bien courageux pour se lever d'aussi bonne heure en vacances !!
enfin le résultat est bien la, la photo est superbe. Tu as bénéficié des plus belles lumùières de la journée pour fixer cet instant.
la couleur du sable est saisissant, les pas apportent beaucoup de profondeur, j'aime beaucoup.
Merci de rechauffer nos écrans après les quelques chutes de neige de cette nuit.

Merci effectivement, car là ca y est, la neige tombe.
Je demande quand je vais me lasser des paysages au grand angle, mais pour le moment j'adore !

Ces couleurs sont très chaudes, les traces de pas apportent un beau relief, et la courbure de la plage est joliment placée dans le cadre.

Par curiosité j'aimerais bien voir la version avec le soleil.

Alors toi tu es au ras du sol pour prendre cette superbe photo aux couleurs et contrastes splendides et moi je prends de la hauteur pour une vue aérienne ;-)
Mais dit moi, c'est vrai que le 350D crame les hautes lumières..a droite...c'est pas un peu surexp?

Tu te leves toujours tot, et ben, quel resultat! Couleurs formidables (t'as augmente la saturation?) et la compo est bien choisie, surtout le format verticale. Les empreintes de pied menent l'oeil vers l'horizon - ils sont a toi? Strange footsteps in a very straight line - were you hopping??!

Indeed very strange colours, but a great effect, and it was wise to "ignore" the sun, making it differente for what it could be another sunrise photo.
The step marks on the sand on first plan give it a Marcian desert effect, quite good.

c'est vrai que les couleurs qui flashent ca attirent. Ce sable gorge de soleil du matin est d'une teinte impressionnante, j'aurais presqu'envie de me rouler dedans...il me semble un peu humide non ;o), je vais m'abstenir alors. Superbe cadrage egalement, le soleil aurait peut etre gener la lecture, tu as bien fait de l'ecarter. Les traces de pas sont sans aucun doute la clef du succes de cette compo.

A proof that landscape and sunset shots are not all bound to be boring!
I seldom critic on landscape photo as it is not my comfort zone (let's say this one involves a human presence, only a matter of a few minutes late...) but this one is really amazing. I specially praise the footsteps in the foreground and the glassy texture of the sea.. I suspect there's also a kind of geometrical evidence, a golden rule applied to triangles, in your composition.

Incroyables ces couleurs, c'est superbe.
Les traces de pas, la petit vague qui arrive sur la plage, la profondeur, ce contraste.....mmmmmhhhh ca donne envie.
On sent bien le chaud, même si en ce moment j'ai plutôt froid ;)

Great colour.

This is the type of sand I'd expect to see in outback Australia while driving through Kalgoorlie. The contrast of this with the water is just magnificent.

Bonnes idee d'avoir exclus le soleil, cela nous permet de nous concenter sur cette plage d'un rouge vermillon (enfin je crois incroyable, c'est bien la premier fois que vois ca. Belle perspective crée par cette grand espace rouge qui nous mene vers le village (ainsi que les pas, enfin qui quittent le village).
Un petit pas pour JY mais un grand pour TE ;o)

A season of memory and melancholy, but these shots warm us!

On this moment of year make very beautiful pictures with low sun, therefor the sand get more red, a warm feeling so close to sea, the steps and curving of beach line make your image completely.

Brilliant colours! The red sand is a real attention grabber, and I like the footprints in the sand leanding along the beach; this helps the viewer to image that they are there. Superb shot!

A very well composed shot full of wonderful tones and hues. I like the sense of depth here with the portrait format. One feels like walking along the shore to retrace these footprints in the sand. The lighting is superb. This is very fine work. A keeper.

Sommes-nous vraiment sur terre à voir cette couleur du sable dont les empreintes prouvent qu'il existe une vie sur Cala Gonone.

Good grief JY what a shot! Actually I took a shot similar to this with two sets of footprints in Oregon at sunset that I will post at some point. I love the super sharpness which gives the sand some nice textures and the water glistens. Awesome shot Jean-Yves!!

Bon décidément, je veux un objectif grand angle! Oh et puis, tant qu'à y être, du sable rouge-or, du soleil et de la mer à profusion. Mais, j'arrête là, tu vas encore me dire d'aller visiter les Italiens. Et si je m'achète un grand angle, j'ai plus d'argent pour le voyage! Mais ce n'est pas grave, je vais continuer à regarder tes photos et à les apprécier. Les pas sur la plage, ici ça fait toute une différence. Ça crée un chemin, une direction et un certain mystère et aussi une texture. Présence du soleil, subtile dans le ciel et évidente sur ce sable. Bon, ça change de la neige que j'ai dû pelleter! Merci!

Quelles superbes couleurs. J'aime le peu de trace sur le sable de cette plage. L'eau claire est bienncelle de notre Grande Bleu ;o)

Tout est bon dans cette image. Une composition top avec ce cadrage vertical et cette composition diagonale plus 1/3 de ciel. Les teintes rendues par cet éclairage rasant du soleil levant.

Ouh là là que c'est beau ! La teinte bien sûr mais aussi la perspective et la netteté, bravo !
Si, juste une petite remarque, peut-être que la composition et l'effet seraient encore meilleur en plaçant la ligne eau/sable juste dans l'angle inférieur de la photo ... bon je n'ai pas lu toutes les critiques (si nombreuses, c'est justifié) mais je dois être le seul à oser une remarque devant une telle photo ... et si je me réfère à ta page de présentation, il faudrait que je démontre mon avis en faisant un WS ... finalement je n'ose toucher à ta photo et la garde ainsi dans mes favorites.
Ps: tu as délaissé ton bonnet andin ;-))

Fantastic composition with strongly present foreground - I like these foot traces on the red sand. Very nice color of sunset(?) reflected on the beach, perfect saturation of reds and very interesting composition with the line of sea shore leading to the deep of the cadre. Very calm place with a weather really in deep contrast to our european weather. Thanks for sharing!

Une photo avec de très belle couleur impressionant vraiment. J'aime beaucoup les trace de pas inscrit dans le sable mais j'aurai peut être préferer les voir tourner dans l'autre sens. Bon c'est personnelle. Il y a aussi un très jolie dégrader au niveau du ciel.

Comme la plupart des touristes, nous ne sommes pas trop restés à plage, préférant de partir en bateau pour les grottes Bue Marino et Cala Luna pour la baignade. C'était un peu râté car j'ai oublié les maillots de bain dans la voiture. Cependent,avant de prendre le bateau, nous avons très bien mangé dans un resto avec vue sur la mer. Le risotto aux fruits de mer était délicieux.

Fin bref: Les détails des pas dans le sable rouge ainsi que la mer sont incroyables. La profondeur est excellent aussi.

I really like the oversaturated colour of the beach here.
Cropping is done very cleverly.
Low morning sun makes the beach not only incredibly red, but also very shrp with beautiful texture.
The only think which could be bettered in PP is the overburned sky.
Overall fanttastic photo, it deserves all the points it got.

Realy incredible! The red of the sand is something I've never seen. Indeed beautiful warm/cold contrast; and the curve that gives perspective leads the eye troughout the picture.

Πολλη ωραια φωτογραφια μαν! Η αντιθεση ειναι ολα τα λεφτα.. Δ φανταζομουν οτι υπαρχει 'κοκκινη αμμος' καπου στην γη... Προς το βαθος το χρωμα της θαλασσας απλα τα κανει ολα να φαινονται τοσο μαγικα.. Η φωτογραφια σου με ταξιδεψε... Μπραβο...
