 Bikestand & Slate (174) pablominto
(30243) | Some years back, when they were planning the new opera house in Oslo (opening was April 12, 2008) there was an argument… marble, granite or slate for the outside walls!
As it is marble won, but the image gives an indication of how the surface would look with slate!
This is the exterior of a mall in Oppdal, a mountain tourist destination in central Norway. And the point is that in addition to tourism the slate industry is big business in Oppdal!
One of the arguments against marble, besides it isn’t Norwegian, was the fact that colour will change slightly during the time: What is white in the start will end up with a yellow tint while slate forever will keep its original colour.
The workshop image shows one of the slate quarries in Oppdal, located around 20 km from where the main image was taken. |
