If they will actually participate into ”various charitable projects” as declared and seriously discuss with me about their proper donations of floating classrooms to Vietnamese floating villages over Tonle Sap Great Lake, then I don’t foresee any reason to not surrender both the negative and certificate of copyright to them, along with my sincere thanks and apology. Your statement provides an easy exit for the violator. All human beings with basic knowledge on legal issues would take this chance, if they trully want "to bring this matter to an amicable resolution" as they wrote. However, I am afraid they may turn their weapon to your head whenever possible. Don't trust what they said, until a final settlement in writing, my friend. God bless! GJ

Of course this is a proof about your "journalist style" of photography. But I still have a question: did he graduate from a medicine college or just does it by himself? (Was he certified to do so in public?) Thanks, George

Hi Thanh: I am not good in legal matters. That's why I am too slow to be with you at this hard moment. The US Copyright Law is somthing for lawyers, not photographers like us. But I believe we got to know some basic rules of the game, before you knock on a law office. Following are what I would focus in, had I been in your shoes. ------ § 506. Criminal offenses (a) CRIMINAL INFRINGEMENT. - Any person who infringes a copyright willfully either – (1) for purposes of commercial advantage or private financial gain, or (2) by the reproduction or distribution, including by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copies or phonorecords of 1 or more copyrighted works, which have a total retail value of more than $1,000 shall be punished... § 509. Seizure and forfeiture (a) All copies or phonorecords manufactured, reproduced, distributed, sold, or otherwise used, intended for use, or possessed with intent to use in violation of section 506 (a), and all plates, molds, matrices, masters, tapes, film negatives, or other articles by means of which such copies or phonorecords may be reproduced, and all electronic, mechanical, or other devices for manufacturing, reproducing, or assembling such copies or phonorecords may be seized and forfeited... (Copyright Law of the United States of America) ------ You don't need to hurry. Go ahead to submit the Copyright Form VA, and wait for the certificate to reach your hands. It is NOT a must, but such certificate would benefit you, not a surplus. Good luck, George

I am not a saint. During my military term in 'Nam, I was familiar with local prostitutes (Danang, Cholon), plus our R&R to Bangkok and Tokyo. But when I looked at the little kid in yellow in your picture and compared to the age mentioned in your series, I want to vomit. The luxury of having 5-year-old kid to perform sex is only the invention of peacetime — I didn't see or hear of during wartime. From this sense, I looked at myself in the mirror, I cannot escape the feeling of guilty... Thank you for helping me having a look into my past. GJ

Pawel spoke out what is hard for me to find correct words to say about this photojournalist picture. Continue to be brave, my friend, 'cause not all will agree with you. Even when you did the better and right thing, you still be under fire... Best, George

Thanh: It's funny that you are under fire for... CNN Cooper's "exaggeration" ;) Mr. Partha Sarathi's comments could be very helpful has he directed the hateful sense to "some western power", not American citizen. I hope Mr. Sarathi has visited Svay Pak before for his comments to have solid ground...
