Thanh: This is not a "breaking" picture for points, but it slowly absorbs the viewers. If I am to write a book about Cambodia, I am sure I would request your permission for using it as the book's front cover. Best wishes! George

Message for Thanh: I hate you, Thanh! I hate you to the best (or worst) of my ability. Don't be a liar to ask me why. You already knew how far to walk from this damn (should I say sorry?) pier to Danang Hotel at the end of Doc Lap Street that has been converted and used for our battalion's BEQ (Bachelor Enlisted Quarters). OK. Thanks for your update of my neighborhood but the name and the location sliced deep into the wound of my memory. It's about hundred yards between the pier and my then residence and it's now half the earth away and 36 years apart. Make it short, Thank you Thanh. Message for Francis: I agree that the picture is just normal to be walked by but you revealed the dark secret behind its colorful face. Your contribution to Thanh's shot is not less than President Bush when he pointed out that Vietnam has took the life of many people... It's sad, but it's true. I was a soldier in the war so I still look back to the city and country that were part of my life. But I am surprised of how much your mind and wisdom got involved with the behind-the-scene of this nation — off from pure photography. Between you and me, I think I should confess that your comments and the "workshop" made me surprised more when I discovered tears in my eyes. Thank you, Francis! George,

Good morning, Thahn: Your abnormal crop (or composition?) makes us uneasy and prompts us to read the notes. That's how the photo becomes effective. I'd like to participate into your wish, "there will be more friends to stand up and do similar things..." Take care, George

Thanh: I am in with every details of the continuous challenges your nephew and you have encountered while taking this trip. It's good to have both of you back in one piece from such a bulge where you were unarmed and the result has to be left to chance and your remarkable endurance. Thank you and God bless! George

Thanh: Don't feel lonely in this lonely planet, man! Reading your story, I can make the head count: the vendor, her son, your nephew, and you. And now, I am with you, open eyes, open heart toward what you were doing with the fund from your respectful and lovely friends. Besides the green smiling face to credit your humanitarian achievement, I wish I can show you that I am taking my hat off. You are great, but your friends are even more. George
