Indeed, the navigation is not very good and it's soooo slow. TE was sometimes slow in the past, but this is even worse. I would like the old look back!

I think that the site not being user friendly is a big issue. That the site is painstaking to negotiate rather than relaxing is going to put people off. I can do without an evening of irritation after I get home from work. TE has been my nightly fix, my way of relaxing in the evenings.I can't see myself volunteering for a nightly torture session! I feel like I've lost a friend. (Am I a saddo or what!?? :))

Being an extreme and self-serving nagger I`d like to say that my map for some reason is not updated :who knows:. Cross that - how do I get to my profile? Nevermind, found out that one, although it was not easy.

Well I guess it really doesent matter, cause I can book emirates flight to Australia, where I can rent a camper for 49,99$ a day and get to catch up on my science blog from!
What next? "Congratulations you`ve won 500,000$", "claim your Green Card", and of course our all time favorite adds that need censoring.

I have to disagree with you, Fulvio. The amount of advertising is not a lot more than the old version. In fact, open the and the new page side by side and you notice they both have only 2 ads space - which means they dont add more ads. I haven't go to each pages but by just seeing the front pages, I can say that your claim is not justified.

However, your comment is important because it says a lot about how the new TE is designed - not too good. And I have to agree with you on that, because visiting a website is as much as a personal experience. The front page of the new layout has the feel of a Hip-hop Music or Porn site (sorry) instead of photography website and this is one issue. Words that weren't used before, are showing up here such as Participate!, Featured Artist, Discover your inner photographer, Popular Destinations - and these alters the style of the original TE into something so commercial. Thus, not the amount of real commercials, but the presentation style that changed.

With that, I still like the change to the new site. I have a feeling that there are new engines that is running the site that offers more powerful features; and this I think is good. As a web designer, I know how important it is to have a good back end engine on your website. For example, I think the new function of 'favorite photo' option is a good thing.

Yet I really do want to see some changes done to the new site, some are minor ones but I think very important. Once they are changed, members like Fulvio may see the new site in a more positive way.
- Picture thumbnails: make them all the same size. Now the tall pictures occupy bigger thumbnail than the horizontal ones.
- Make the title of the picture just says the title, remove 'by username'.
- I would reword those 'catchy' phrases to something less commercial, like the phrases used in the old site. They are more elegant.
- I would remove the 'Travel Destination' section and bring back the old geography menu (Earth>North America>Canada...). Just think it is pointless.
- Simplify as much as possible and remove unnecessary ornaments. Cleaner design, less clutter; especially on the individual photo pages
- I see on the signout button, TE is using lightbox function (pages grayed out, while displaying floating window). I always like this function to display images, they look so elegant; so maybe you can apply it for displaying individual photos?
- I would try to place the full-sized photo as high as possible on the page, it is good to be able to see the photos in its entirety on the screen (I use 1280x1024 res) when browsing without having to scroll down on each page.
- Previous and next button - the bigger the better so I don't have to move my mouse every time I want to click to the next picture.
- And probably the hardest one to do, yet very important is speed. Now the loading time between pages are way too slow; if that is too difficult to change, at least the loading time between individual photos needs to be snappy.

That's all I can think of for now. It may be plenty but I do think the new TE site definitely can be better than now. On the bottom note, I don't think you TE guys deserve all the mouthbashing from most of the members after putting so much work into this. But what they see is what you want them to see, whether you intend them or not.

And for Fulvio, no, I am not paid by the TE organization. I just like TE site from very long time ago for providing a circuit where people can share their best photography from all parts of the world for everybody to enjoy, (plus its free), so thanks TE for being there.

you see the positive, good for you, but these minor things won't change in my opinion... see how they didn't follow the beta testers critiques

2 important features are missing, and one is not a minor detail
- we don't have a link to the recent post of our favorite members
- the most important: how do you find my city : Europe>France>Champagne-Ardenne>and then???? the list stops at the letter M : this is amateurism when a feature looks nice but is useless (in the Ile de France région, it stops at the letter C... LOL)

I believe the reason they removed the titles of the photos is so they could squish them all in closer and make more room for advertisements. The thumbnails look blurry to me and smaller and are completely overshadowed by those obnoxious and VERY large ads.

Well, let's wait and see what happens, then :).

Meanwhile, for those missing the "old" feature of viewing our favorite's artists photographs in a row, there's this link :

provided by Tue on another thread. Just replace my nickname by yours, it should work. Hopefully this particularly useful feature will be (re)established soon!

This new TE is NOT an improvement! It is actually a step backwards. you have to click SOOO many times to even get to see the photos, and locating countries takes even more clicks.
The ease of use is not longer there. Who thought this would be better and easier? they should be fired!
please go back to the "old TE" ...newer doesn't always mean better.
