I'm shooting with a Nikon D200 and a new Nikkor 18-200 VR lense.
Well, the body is famous for being reasonably protected against humidity. So I'm happily shooting pictures with upcoming rain, some drops falling, and only stop at a point that it really starts raining more. BUT... I never had any thoughts over the 18-200 VR lense... Anyone having good (and bad) experiences shooting with this combination under humid conditions? When should I put it back into the bag? ;-) Thanks for your thoughts!~ Greetings, Dennis |

I've used the Nikon D70s (a lot less weather-proofing than the D200) and the 18-70 (a similar level of protection to the 18-200) in some quite heavy weather with no problems. It's also been drenched in seawater a couple of times.
I always dry it off as soon as possible, though. If you want to shoot in the rain, you can buy fancy rain protection covers for your camera, or just do what I do and use a plastic bag with a rubber band to secure it round the lens. Works a treat! Cheers, Ben |

Hi Ben,
Just wondering how for I can go with it! I'm not that big on rain, but I like the heavy clouds just before the rain starts on my picture. The plastic bag with rubber band sounds more like my solution than the fancy cover :-). Thanks! Dennis |

Hi Dennis,
I wouldn't worry too much if you're just thinking about the odd drop of rain or light shower as you seem to be. But no camera or lens combination will take a deluge without some added protection. Best wishes Stephen |
