Hi Paul,
I see what you mean, but still it is something quite particular for me as well. In Poland the villages or towns end but not as abruptly as you say as here. Here there is a great contrast between extremely densely build town and the open space. I suppose people built so densely in the past for the protection to be inside the town walls. But now it feels a bit obsolete.

To mkamionka: Another possible reason
Thank you Mariusz,
I don't know the reason why the people in Olvera built so close together. But in desert lands there is another reason. I remember places in Morocco and Tunisia where the houses were built very close to each other. The reason for this was that the fertile land was so scarce that people were not allowed to build a house on it. Houses were only allowed to be built in barren places, for example on rocks, and the fertile ground around them had to remain completely free for arable farming. I am not sure if this could also be a reason for the construction of houses in Andalusia. Kind regards, Paul
