Hi Aleks,
It's nice to see you back (on TE and in Albania) and with such a lovely and charming photo. The girls are ever so cute and you have captured them perfectly with spontaneous laughters and hair flying. The colours of the tiled floor match their clothes well and the blooming bushes form a great background.
The other day I saw a stupid story on BBC about some reporter's courageous journey from Corfu to Saranda and Butrint. She was overwhelmed by surprise to find strolling local tourists and sunbeds along the beach, but she clearly didn't go any further because she claimed that the appalingly bad roads (or whatever words she used) still make travelling in Albania so very tough and time-consuming.
I may be just a former journalist but I still believe in checking up the facts before writing. :-)
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Gert,
Thanks for the comment. I read that BBC article from their correspondent too, I am not even sure that he/she was brave enought to actually set foot in Saranda!! They probably just found a couple of images and articles on the internet and put them together aiming to feed the prejudice of their ignorant readership. It doesn't take a scientist to see this either, first you use the usual key words you know, basic bad old stuff such as Albania was a communist country, bunkers, dictatorship, trouble history, pyramid schemes, mafia, crime, bad roads etc.. Second you beef it up with a couple of sensational stories the finally you find a couple new facts from the latest newspapers. Anyway I just came back and I was not inconvenienced one bit, I only saw nice people, good prices and good food. The only problem was the heat, 38 degrees was a bit too much for me. Regards Aleks PS- Your last article about Albania was much more informative and well evidenced and I am not even complimenting! |
