Responding to critiques
Thanks for the sensible and flattering comments. I think the jpeg compression is not very high, what you are seeing is red channel noise in the darkest areas. If I had pushed the compression, it would show in all the high detail parts

And -- sorry I wasn't finished -- no matter what the cause is, I see too the possibility of chopping off the top. I liked the idea of ending into complete darkness, but the almost-square-format is not so attractive. There wasn't much detail I could save in the mountains, so I went for the silouette. I agree that in general silouettes are overused and a little detail is good.
