Hello Bev,
We can still imagine, vaguely, what this street looked like 100-150 years ago. But I think the exteriors have seen almost as much improvement and modernization as the interiors. I can't imagine anything looked as neat and clean in the old days. Regarding the WS the changes made seem to have been even greater than in this view. As for the old man and his TV set: couldn't English TV's ever be run on kerosene or gas? ;-)
