Have I mentioned I love comparing your old and newer photos of the same place? :-) I agree with what you said in your recent upload. These houses have been beautifully renovated and the atmosphere of the city seems nice. I still prefer the old view, but only a little bit. And I bet women didn't have to wear head scarves in 1971...
Obviously 22 thousand tourists is not a lot... or they stopped coming after September. :-)

I wish I could make many more such comparisons, but this was a rare example. There are not so many places where I have been several times many years apart. People often suggest that I should go back to certain places just to observe the changes, but most places I saw while in my 20's or early 30's would be unthinkable to return to (like Afghanistan, South Sudan etc).
But you are right. In 1971 only some older women wore headscarves, and never in this trendy way. This fashion came with the AKP.
