Great holmertz 2020-04-16 9:49

Hello Elaine,
It's a great portrait with superb sharpness on its head and beautiful B&W tones. Those eyes! Did people feed him with mice during his convalescence so he got used to being served his meals? A healthy owl should be able to hunt for anything anywhere.
Regards,
Gert

Default To holmertz: Strange experience

Thank you Gert,

First of all, I felt safe in Cambodia everywhere I went. Very safe.
Sometimes, however, there were so many people who saw a western face and thought immediately at an opportunity to earn dollars.
I understand this. It just got a bit too much sometimes.
But regardless of the dangers in the traffic, the country was safe.

Regarding the Pol Pot time, I had a very strange experience.
I was talking with a young tuk-tuk-driver about that terrible time and I was shocked about his reaction.
He said he knew what I meant. He had heard about what Pol Pot was responsible for, but he wondered if that was all true.
I couldn't believe his reaction. It made me think of a neo-Nazi who wants to deny the Holocaust.

I don't know if there are many Cambodians who think so.
But the country has many young people and very few older people.
A large part of the current population has no personal memory of that time.

However, visits to the Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh are haunting visits.

All the best!
Paul
