Great batalay 2010-12-31 5:51

Hi Paul,

I've seen the thumbnail image for this photo a number of times, but it is the first time I've opened the full image. It is an astonishing portrait, emblematic of superb camera in the hands of a very good photographer. You've created an incisive portrait of the man, his piercing eyes, and each strand of his beard in perfect focus.

Moreover, you've unconsciously or inadvertently placed one of his eyes (here his left) very close to the centerline. In a pair of posts, “Rembrandt's Rabbi” and “The Old Rabbi”, I had discussed the significance of that technique discovered just 12 years ago.

Finally, your excellent note adds to the value of this post at TE, "learning about geography through photography."

I wish you and your family a New Year marked by health and happiness,

Bulent

Hello Bulent,
Thanks for your comments, you indeed learnt me something new and very interesting; or how geometry and art go together.
Regards and happy new year,

Paul
