Hello Gert,
The almost naive figures and the colours that South Indians like to use for the statues of their gods are difficult to grasp for many Westerners.
I remember my feeling when I saw pictures of the temples and the many statues in Madurai a long time ago. When I was there many years later, I was very much impressed.
Most Westerners, I think, will be much more interested in the beautiful murals in WS1 than in the statues in WS2.
Did you see the large Nandu in Brihadeshwara Temple?
The dimensions of the temple become clear to us by seeing the group of visitors. We even see someone with a red shirt.
I like your framing with the arch and especially the writing we see on the column on the right. Is it Tamil?
With all understanding the stones under your feet were probably too hot to stay there a little longer and bend your knees a little more so that the top of the tower fits completely under the doorway.
Best regards, Paul

Thank you Paul,
My diary mentions "a huge black stone cow cut out of one rock" in the middle of the courtyard, but strangely I have no pictures. Maybe the light wasn't good. That small piece of missing tower has been hurting me ever since, more than the hot stones. I contemplated "fixing" it digitally but didn't bother. I can't always be perfect. ;-) Best regards, Gert |
