Photographer's Note
Camels in the Guelta d'Archei, in the Ennedi mountain range, near the border with Sudan. This barren canyon holds an ancient reservoir of surface water which is unique in the Sahara desert. In this dirty pond of water can be even found crocodiles (haven't seen them though) which survived in the region in the last 10000 years, when the place changed from fertile savannah to arid desert.
What really astounded me was the sound produced by the camels, which reverberates through the walls of the canyon and really reminds of what ancient dinosaurus should have looked like in their environment.

This is a most interesting image. As a matter of fact I didn’t imagine this kind of lake and landscape in Sahara. All these camels are also curious. Are they wild?
In technical terms there are some areas of overexposure, which could be avoided by measuring the light in a medium brightness area. Or even in a brighter area, as we can recover details from shadows but not burned spaces.
Another option is to crop the top part as it doesn’t bring relevant details to the composition and it’s the main burned area.
Made a WS. Hope you’ll like it.

A beautiful capture of this site.
I do appreciate the WS of José. It means the original was already good if the WS is good too !
The red tones are incredible. They make me think of Jordanian sites like Petra.
This is surely due to the beautiful light that enters the canyon.

Fantastic perspective! It's a gem of a picture surpassing the best in the National Geographic in terms of its documental value and clarity. The note is very informative.

Hi Dario!!! I randomly came to you following traces from Croatia emerald waters and bumping into one of the images which strucked me up most in my pre TE epoque (not member yet) . Felt curiosity about Chad , one non touristically common place with contradictory experiences reported by many travellers( i 've heard many of them ran risky and menacing plight situations there ) . I love those contrasts , the arid space with the presence of camels , waters , rocks , desert , grandious picture , so so interesting and rescued from my memory again . Interesting places and pictures you have rostered in your page . A gift for the senses . Grazie .

Hi Dario,
I saw some pictures of this same place in a National Geographic magazine a couple years ago, and it really tickled my curiosity; I hope to be able to visit it one day. You've got quite a good angle on the scene, but unfortunately, there are some exposure problems, as well as it being a little blurry. It's unfortunate because this is a good picture of an incredible place. Thanks for the informative note.

I have to admit, I've never really thought much about the country of Chad, but this picture really makes me want to go there. The POV you've chosen is absolutely perfect. It makes this place seem huge and beautiful. Truly incredible photo.
