Photographer's Note

This shot is not one of the better ones I took in Ethiopia, however, I think it fits within the TE ethos.

Those that have seen my previous images from the bull-jumping ceremony will have read that part of the ceremony involves young men whipping female relatives of the man being initiated with long thin sticks. This is no gentle thing. The women's role is to show their strength by insisting the the young men are a bit feeble and need to try harder.

They wear the resulting scars with pride.
