Photographer's Note

My first posting on trekearth in 4 years - hopefully my next one will not take that amount of time.

Salt caravans in the Afar region of Ethiopia crossing a shallow lake - one camel slipped and the caravaneers are trying to bend the legs back so that the camel can get up again. They finally had to unload the salt blocks from the camels back before it was confident getting back on its feet - at which stage it was reloaded.

The title contains a deliberate homage to Sebastiao Salgado, probably my favourite photographer, and is the name of a documentary on his life directed by Wim Wenders
