Photographer's Note

I didn't plan to go to Gambia and Senegal. I was rather thinking about going alone to Ethiopia. But I travelled already quite a lot this year, I would need at least three weeks there, it would be difficult, so when I saw a relatively cheap organized tour to Gambia and Senegal, I quickly decided to go (I decided to go late on Sunday and on Friday morning I was on the plane). I went on the easy way this time:). I visited less known places, far away from the sea coast, the trip was well organized, the group was small and I like it. I do not know how it would be to travel independently. I saw some buses. I am not sure if I would be brave enough in such conditions. The buses were overloaded, it can be dangerous.

Hello Malgo,
I don't know what 'Health and Safety' would think about this, but it's pretty standard in Africa and parts of Asia. Excellent daily life composition. The lady in her colourful traditional dress makes a fine initial focal point before we go on to take in the rest of this amazing scene. Perfectly exposed with very good colour contrasts and superb clarity.

Hello Malgo,
Three more very nice nothing specials, entirely to my taste. This one shows a lovely woman and a dangerous truck. The small bus looks OK. The photos are all nice snapshots with fine colours. Have they stopped using the shared taxis? They used to be specially built Peugeot cars with three rows of seats, made to take 7 passengers, usually taking at least 10. They were probably faster than the buses but not less dangerous. As I told you I was very nearly killed in one of them...

Trzy zdjecia swietnie pokazujace transport w Gambii, zarowno ludzi jak i przedmiotow. Ja jezdzilam po Tanzanii publicznym transportem, takimi wlasnie busami, ale tez calkiem przyzwoitymi autobusami (z rozkladem pokazujacym np. 12 godzin jazdy, a w rzeczywistosci okazywalo sie, ze droga zajmowala np. 30 godzin, lacznie ze spaniem w autobusie - bylam jedynym obcokrajowcem w tym pojezdzie, kierowca tak sie o mnie bal, ze w nocy osobiscie wyprowadzal mnie do toalety...). Etiopia tez jest na mojej liscie.

No, ten autobus chyba nie zasluguje na zaufanie, chociaz cos podobnego widzialem przed 20 laty w Turcji, a dziewczyna jest bardzo atrakcyjna i sukienki nie powstydzilby sie zaden projektant mody

it must have been a pleasure to see this lady walking! Did you notice, that the pattern of her dress enhances her backside to be a real eyecatcher?
I would cut off a big piece of the white bus and perhaps a little of the left side.
I always like to read your notes, too, especially today, when you told about your quick decision. No long hesitation, off you go! I´m impressed!

wonderful daily life shot, this is what I'd be hunting for! these are so memorable. and to have the beautiful woman in the fg makes it even better, wearing the colorful attire. I didn't realise this was an organized tour, they took you to even these remote places? Did you feel as if you had enough free time to get your shots? sounds like a great experience.

Mnie w pierwszej kolejnosci rzucila sie w oczy ta pani w tak bardzo wzorzystej sukni.

PS A propos, smialas sie ze pokazalem zwyczajna palme na zwyczajnej plazy a chwile potem dta napisal mi ze sfotografowal dokladnie te sama palme!!! Niesamowite ze na TE odnajdujemy dokladnie to samo drzewo! Francuz i Polak sfotografowali to samo drzewo w Hiszpanii!

It's great you enjoyed your tip to Africa. I know what you mean about public transport in 3rd world countries. I have had unpleasant experiences in both Cambodia and Vietnam with overcrowded and decrepit buses. And I once spiked my knee when crawling over a hessian bag of durian in a bus in Sumatra, Indonesia, so a package trip is not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of plastic chairs on the truck! Tfs!

Yes, we can see that the busses are a bit overloaded :)
But lucky no people have to sit on the roof.
Is poverty the same in Gambia and Senegal?

I think to travel alone in one of these countries isn't so safe, for a woman is worst.
