I just couldn't help sharing this. In the so called developed world it is pretty much considered a fact that the road quality in Africa is far below western standard. And to a certain extend that's true. I've heard the roads in Western Africa are worse than this, and as soon as you are off the highway it can be very different than this. But the highways in all countries I visited had the same standard as back home. I guess this shows progress and hope for this region. This specific place reminded me of Death Valley in USA (Although Death Valley was almost 40 degrees warmer than Lesotho when I was there).

It was a bit of a hurry this morning. We intended to reach either Durban or Johannesburg the same day, but quickly had to reconsider that. The border post at Sani Pass closed at 6 pm and we realized that we wouldn't make that anyway as we were driving up and down 3000 m altitude mountain passes all day. But this was taken early in the day and we did not have time to step out and take photos.

What I remember from driving through this part of Lesotho is that many places looked like this. Straight roads and a mountain looking like Table Mountain in front. I must also mention that they seem to love putting these big speed humps in the middle of nowhere. You really had to stay awake to not suddenly hit one in high speed. And although the speed limit was 100 km/h, many cars could only go to around 70.

I managed to find this exact spot on google maps, near a place called Masite Nek, about 40 km south of the capital Maseru.

Tomorrow I'll try to share a photo from Southern Africa's highest mountain pass, one out of two ski resorts in this part of Africa and the highest restaurant in Africa.
