Looking for vegetables, a photo from Antsiranana, North

Photographer's Note

After the crabs, it is the turn of the vegetables department, not much fruit but many products of the earth, and here they are certainly very natural and practically "bio". The covered market of Hell-ville is the main nucleus of the island's trade and is located not far from the port. The structure was built in 1964, practically my age, and shows all the signs of time ... like me!

Dopo i granchi, è il turno del reparto vegetali, poca frutta ma tanti prodotti della terra, e qui sicuramente sono molto naturali e praticamente "bio". Il mercato coperto di Hell-ville è il nucleo principale del commercio dell'isola e si trova non lontano dal porto. La struttura è stata costrutita nel 1964, praticamente ha la mia eta', e mostra tutti i segni del tempo...come me!

This part of the market looks well stocked with fresh produce and has a good sprinkling of customers. I like the long perspective the length of the market hall. Very well exposed with excellent colours and clarity.

No doubt a more appetizing part of the market than the muddy crab section. I would probably gladly eat anything here, the colours are attractive and people are awake. You handled the light perfectly, even the cabbages are well exposed (they always get overexposed for me), and the rows of small stalls give the photo an excellent depth.

The vegetables look a lot more attractive than the crabs I must say. The many tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and cabbages add some appealing colours and patterns to the composition. The people animate the scene.

Hello Luciano, the fruit and vegetables look so fresh ; tempting displays.
The aisles seem very narrow as the produce takes up some of that space.
The building does show its age, but that does not detract from your picture at all.
The shoppers are an essential part of the composition.

Hee, hee, having seen photographs of you on Facebook, I think time has been kinder to you than it has been for this place which now looks pretty worn and grubby!

But, yes, as Gert says, I would much prefer to try eating some of the produce here than ever consider those muddy crabs! These brightly coloured vegetables look very nice: I'm sure that they were quite inexpensive and would be nutritious too.

A fine photograph with lovely soft light, rich colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

A terrific shot from the indoor vegetable market. Not at all like an Aldi Supermarket or even a Lidl! The red tomatoes and green shallots at left provide a nice color contrast in this excellent daily life scene. Tfs!

Markets are always high on our list of places to visit on our travels. They give a good idea of daily life and it's always fun to buy a thing or two as well.

The big white guy with the sweaty back definitely looks out of place in here, my feeling is that the two little ones behind his back have noticed that too :))

very well lit interior. The vegetables provide so many colors it is a great view!
The only disappointing fact is that the vegetables are not some exotic types but tomato, potato or cabbage. I suppose people eat them all around the world :)
The strongest point of this image is very well balanced exposure. We can admire details even of the most remote fragments of the market.

Such a market I have near my home - onions, tomatoes, cabbages, potatoes, green pepper, carrots - we have bigger choice with more fruits. And the customers are tourists here. Only the two kids indicate that it is Africa. But the composition and especially colours are very attractive.

Markets are interesting places when visiting another country.
The building shows signs of wear but all vegetables seem nicely arranged for sale.
Two little boys seem to follow the visitors with a strange skin colour.
