Photographer's Note
Sea mist is a common weather phenomenon along the Namibia coast. The cold current coming up from the Antarctic (Benguella Current) meets the hot, dry air of the Namibian interior and this results in the familiar grey, dampness of the coast. Here it seldom rains but desert life survives thanks to the moisture that condenses on the ground.
This shot was taken on the Swakopmund Jetty

Hello Rosemary,
I had to check twice to make sure this was Swakopmund. It's a surprising photo that to me looks like ordinary British kids walking along the pier in Blackpool or Brighton. An interesting and graphically attractive view.
Kind regards,

Hi Rosemary,
hardly an ordinairy african scenery. One can almost feel the coldness of the Europeanlike mist.
The people seem surprised with it.

hi Rosemary
the B&W is suitable for this picture. A good perspective of the pier we follow with the people leading our eye on 2 photographers adjusting their camera on a tripod!
Ave a nice day

Hi Rosemary,
I love how clear this image is, the resolution seems amazing! An what a cool composition too, in particular I love the row of lamps on left, any leading line will give great depth, but yours has worked to a much deeper degree here. I think the choice of black and white is very good, as it really draws on the that damp soggy feeling that you mention in your note.
I see in the perfectly placed silhouettes at the top of the stairs that some other shutterbugs were readying themselves to catch a moment too :)
Best wishes
Noel

Ciao Rosemary

Hello Rosemary,
This is so atmospheric!
It reminds me of film shots taken mid last century at the seaside!
You have used the pier to great effect, drawing the viewer deeper into the shot. The reducing clarity gives a sense of depth and mystery.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Rosemary,
I love photos taken in mist. This one is an exceptional composition with the lamps, people and jetty fading into the distance. Perfect in B&W.

Hello Rosemary,
This is really most extraordinary; looks like a day at the English seaside rather than a scene from the African coast, but that is what TE is all about, introducing us the the world. Good choice of black and white to heighten the graphism. The guard rails of the pier funnel us into the scene and directing us to the focal point offered by the steps. The couple at the top of the steps adjusting the tripod nicely complete the composition.

hello Rosemary, Nice view of the pier in Swakopmund. It reminds me our pier in Sopot, near Gdansk. In fact, in all Swakopmund I felt like in Sopot taken to Africa :). Of course, it is because the German heritage.
Good option of black and white in a misty day. Beautiful silhouettes and the rows of lamps.

Hello Rosemary
this is wonderful. Your POV perfectly chosen as is the medium which adds to the atmosphere and magic of this shot. You placement of the human interest here is just perfect too as it adds scale and intrigue. Well done!
Love the lamps.

Bonjour Rosemary,
J'aime beaucoup cette composition. Surtout le petit côté documentaire que donne l'utilisation du noir et blanc. J'aime aussi comment les gens se dirigent vers la brume, comme pour disparaître.

Hi Rosemary,
Not a typical Namibia picture, but I have read that fog is fairly common on the coastline. High key exposure gives inviting feeling to this place. People are well placed to enhance perspective.

Hi Rosemary
Fabulous composition, depth and perspective, really like your work but this mono shot shows how simplicity contributes to image quality and viewing this image on a lovely grey misty background really brings it to life where those figs call for attention and then gradually fade away into the distance. A good conversion and different from the colour but still retains that luminosity and well worth playing with. Pleasure to view and marvellous, Congrats, tfs

Hello Rosemary,
this reminds me a bit of the time that we visited Teignmouth pier one winter`s day, although as I remember we were properly rugged up!
There is a nice touch of eeriness compounded by the mono treatment, nicely done.

Hello Rosemary,
An interesting b/w from a place that I associated with very bright colour. Love the sea mist and the white space in the picture. The lamps have interesting shapes and lead my eye along the pier. There is a lot to like about this.

Hi Rosemary!
This is really good, the mist turns it magical and the composition is so good with the rows of lamps and the family walking along the pier. Those silhouettes at the top add a lot. Just great in b&w. It's a very good shot indeed!

Dear Rosemary,
Another excellent BW picture. My favourite thing in this picture is it's multilayer composition due to sea mist. Every layer tells it's own little story.

Hi Rosemary
This is an unusual and creative image, high key effect works really well here. It has been skilfully framed to make the best of the repetitive pattern made by lamps. Interesting scenes both in the foreground and in the distance.
Have a nice weekend

Good idea for the presentation in w&b, interesting result. Good depth effect, well with people, good idea for a photo with the famous swakop. fog.

Hello Rosemary
An excellent high contrast image - very, very good. To my eye own eye, and thus subjectivity - where we all differ, the post on the left distracts a little but I see why you have included it since it allows you to lead the rail in from the left corner and to have cropped the post out you would have had to raise the bottom edge to achieve the same lead line and that would have upset the compositional balance of the whole scene. But my own opinion aside, I absolutely love this shot. It's a cracker.
Thanks
Mike
