Photographer's Note
This is the Mill that allows me to buy the camera I use to take pictures to post on TE and TL... A beast of a mill, making pulp and paper, set in the middle of a beautiful valley surrounded by forests and rivers, even wild horses about 10 minutes away. Winter is starting to move in, so the light is very sharp and the skies clear and blue for the most part. The trees haven't started to turn brown just yet, but the wind is already blowing harder than usual. I will attempt a night shot of this, as it really lights up - looks almost like a city! But at least I get to live in the valley with this beauty surrounding my life:-)))
Tech: Unsharp mask, levels, contrast.

Judy
This reminds me of the one between Waterval-onder and Nelspruit, on the LH side of the road. One place I always promise myself I will stop and shoot, espcially when the lights are on , but the call of Kruger always wins and we zip past. A small comment - if you crop some of the green bottom off, just above that open space - kaal kol - the whole dynamsim of your your picture changes, making your subject, the mill, so much stronger.

Great photo. Yes I think a night photo of this would be lovely. You said the mill allows you to buy your camera, do you work there? own it?

Great shot Judy. You have managed to combine beauty and uglyness. I'm afraid it is the same all over the world.
Well done.

Wonderful lanscape scene here, Judy!
Very well shown the contrast between the natural part and the industrail! :D
I think the sky is a bit overexposed, you should try to lock the sky's exposure and re-compose the scene. A great shot anyway...

It's funny with thumbnails: some of them look so boring that it takes a long time before you get around to clicking on them, and then when you finally do, they reveal so much detail and initially hidden beauty. In this shot it is of course the grandeur of it all that needs to be seen close up. And the smoke from the mill that tells the sad story so well in the middle of all that lovely green. Nice effect to have the saturated green in the foreground and the rest lost in the haze.
Where are all the winter shots from South Africa, Judy?
