Photographer's Note

Another one of my favorite running spots from my theme is the beach of Strand in South Africa. Strand is a little town on the other side of Table Mountain from Cape Town. Strand actually means beach in Afrikaans, one of the many official languages of the country.

It is a small and quiet town and is situated west to False Bay. In the first weeks of september many whales can be seen here, as they rest, continuing their journey later in september. The waves are not that good but still you can spot some surfers all year round. Every saturday there is a fish/ flea market on the beach' parkinglot were you can buy fresh fish for the braai (BBQ). Close to Strand are some bigger towns: Gordons Bay and Sommerset West.

Running is excellent here, the beach is really wide and hard and very clean too. Running the entire beach and back will take about 40 min (12km/h). Excellent view on the bay, Table Mountain and Kogelberg Mountain. Lots of other runners, nice sea breeze and nice selection of radio stations.

You have captured a wonderful setting between the beach and the mountain and the soft pink light baths, what I suppose are rather ordinary buildings in a lovely rosy lighten few figure are useful to give a sense of recession and scale. (Interestingly, Strand is a word for beach in Ireland too) Regards Kevin

Beautiful lighting in this shot, Gilbert.
The buildings appear to be enjoying the sunlight.
Good angle - you seem to have your camera on the sand.
