Photographer's Note

This is a photo I took of an elephant at a sanctuary outside of Plettenberg Bay. The elephants were "performing" for us a bit much in my view. However, considering the fact that they were rescued animals from culling or circuses, I suppose it wasn't so bad. They seemed to have a decent quality of life in captivity. I am very passionate about elephants. I used a free trial of Photoshop to sharpen, crop, and increase the contrast a bit.

Hi Dana,
A very beautiful closeup of an elephant's face. It seems to be very sad, which is heartwrenching. I always love to see them but when we think of the price they have to pay for this, I am not sure. I want them free... this is such a beautiful tribute to this very special animal, with its melancholy eyes... you did a fantastic postprocessing with the light and dark areas, making it into a deeply moving shot.

What an excelent shot. I like the color you have made and the composition is totally artistic, but that i love most of all is the texture of the skin. Well worked, congratulations.
