Photographer's Note
Returning to South Sudan after almost twenty years believing I was an orphan I often felt like time had been suspended for my people. This is the house my grandfather built. It is the nicest hut in the village, Majok-Chedhiop near Yirol. My uncle and his family still live here in 2005. The children sleep in the upstairs room and the parents sleep below. This arrangement is to keep the children safe from animals and strrangers. Notice the designs on the mud walls.

Good photo. Very good depiction of life in this part of South Sudan. The photographers note is excellent. It makes the photograph more meaningful to know a little of your story and that of your grandfather.

Hi Isaac, Your photos of this remote part of the world are an eye opener. Much better to see through your lens than that of the press. Thanks for your sharing of these images to let us know how others live. No matter what - Life goes on.
