Photographer's Note

Zanzibar's capital, Stone Town, is a wonderful mix of African and Arabic culture, with fascinating markets in narrow winding streets where the aroma of spices fills the air. The old slave quarters, the spice plantations and the Josine Forest are places to visit.

Anglican Cathedral Church
This church was built between 1873 and 1880 on the site of the former slave
market. A unique feature of the church are the panpipes erected in 1880. The
panpipes were purchased in England and still work today.
The altar of the Anglican Cathedral Church was erected on the slave whipping
post. This is also the grave site of a bishop who died in 1882, two years after
completing the church.
