Photographer's Note
Mount Damāvand is a potentially active volcano and the highest peak in Iran (5671 m), has a special place in Persian mythology and folklore. It is located in the middle Alborz Range and is the highest point in the Middle East and the highest volcano in all of Asia.
The mountain is located near the southern coast of the Caspian Sea and 66 km (41 miles) northeast of Tehran.
Damāvand is the symbol of Iranian resistance against despotism and foreign rule in Persian poetry and literature. In Zoroastrian texts and mythology, the three-headed dragon Aži Dahāka was chained within Mount Damāvand, there to remain until the end of the world. In a later version of the same legend, the tyrant Zahhāk was also chained in a cave somewhere in Mount Damāvand after being defeated by Kāveh and Fereydūn. Persian poet Ferdowsi depicts this event in his masterpiece, the Shahnameh. The mountain is said to hold magical powers in the Shahnameh. Damāvand has also been named in the Iranian legend of Arash as the location he fired his arrow to mark the Iran border. The famous poem Damāvand by Mohammad Taqī Bahār is also one fine example of the mountain's significance in Persian literature. The first verse of this poem reads:
Oh white demon with feet in chains
Oh terrestrial dome, Oh Mount Damāvand
Mt Damavand has some thermal springs with therapeutic qualities. These mineral hot springs are mainly located on the volcano's flanks and at the base, giving evidence of volcanic heat comparatively near the surface of the earth. While no historic eruptions have been recorded, hot springs at the base and on the flanks, and fumaroles and solfatara near the summit, indicate a hot or cooling magma body still present beneath the volcano, so that Damavand is a potentially active volcano.
I took the shot in Lar Valley (Lar National Park) which is 70 km east of Tehran along Haraz road. It is the biggest valley in Iran and is about 28,000 square kilometers in area and is a good place for hiking. Its lake is suitable for swimming and fishing, if relevant permits are obtained from the Department of Environment.

Its very nice and impressive image.Damavand is a relief and surprise to the eye and Visible from many kilometers away. The earliest lava flows in Damavand are thought to post-date roughly 38,500 year old. Hot springs specially on the eastern flank(Larijan village) is attractive for health tourists.

Hello Atousa,
An excellent presentation of the roof of your land in a composition well balanced. The large FG - with plesanat coloured flowers - give a greta depht to the image. Superb coulds in the sky too. I like the contrast between the spring's vegetation in the Fg and the top of the moutain covered of smow.
Best regards,

Bonjour, cher Atousa,
Bravo !
Amitiés.

Salam Atousa,
It really shouldn't come as a surprise for me to discover there is such a place in Iran, contrast to what my imagination of what Iran should be. That just show ignorance I can be sometimes and thanks to your photos I lean so much about your homeland than I would have. Not only that, I truly appreaciate your photographic skill and artistic eyes.
My complements, thanks.

Hello Atousa,
The details captured in this beautiful mountain landscape are amazing. I like the three dimensional effect with the clouds floating in front of the mountain. The whole view is quite impressive with excellent POV and DOF and the lighting and color are very good as well.

Hello Atousa,
This portrait of such a high mountain (it is 29 m higher than Caucasian Mt Elbrus, where I was last month)looks extremely impressive indeed. The foreground is so colorful and beautiful. The white head of the mountain looks nice against blue sky. Excellent shot with the comprehensive and interesting note!

Salam Atousa,
Thank you for this magical photo of this most perfect mountain. Set here in the natural garden of wild flowers and against a rich, deep sky, the mountain looks so content to watch over this landscape. What is very special to me is the way the clouds sitting between your viewpoint and the peak gives a very real depth to the scene which makes it seem of the third dimension. Impressive work.

Greetings Atousa,
The previous photo I commented on had a real focus in the poppies which attracted the eye - the time it is the mountain itself which provides the clear, photographic centre of this picture. A very well managed shot in lovely clear light - with a marvellous foreground.
Great work, thanks, Iain

Salam Atousa,
I thank you for your (brave) review yesterday. Do you know that in Japan, we have a mountain looks just like this one. and what is more, it's the highest of all. Resemblance of the shape is stunning. I like the foreground full of wild flowers. And in the sky we have these puffy clouds. the whole scene is very peaceful and the time passes slowly around us. This is the mount Fuji of Iran. Or the other way around?
Very nice to her from you Atousa,
very best regards,
Nobu.
