This is my second picture of Palmela Castle

Palmela is a town and a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 463 km2 (179 sq mi) and a total population of 58,222 inhabitants.
The municipality is composed of 5 parishes, and is located in the district of Setúbal, about 25 km (16 mi) south of Lisbon.

The town's name comes from her Roman founder, Cornelius Palma (Palmella). Palmela, once a fortress, was conquered by the Portuguese in the XII century, from Muslim invaders. It is located up a hill in the Arrábida area, and it's a semi-rural town, right in the middle of Portugal's biggest urban area, though the fact that many people are moving in from big cities like Lisbon represents a problem. Wild fires in the region are another threat to the environment.

The town's ex libris is the castle (Castelo de Palmela), which offers a unique view over the whole region of Setúbal's Peninsula, Lisbon, and the Atlantic Coast. It was a strategic place in past centuries, and today it is still a main knot of Portugal's road and rail networks.

Palmela is home to many multinational industrial plants like Volkswagen or Coca-Cola, and a significant number of foreign families live in the area. The local radio often broadcasts in Ukrainian.

Hello Aires this is one of the castles I like most in Portugal, because while looking to the south you can enjoy the view of Setubal, Arrabida and Caparica and when you look towards the west you can see some parts of Lisbon.

In this photo, you get a very good vantage point to show the beauty of castle and the Pousada at the backgraund.

The wall leads the eye into this shot beautifully. Your composition is fine placing the castle off center and balancing it with the foreground building. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness.

Really a lovely place and a very good composition. This ancient castle with its stone walls is a very photogenic subject and I like the warm afternoon light which makes everything sparkle and the intense pastel colours. It's a typical Mediterranean architecture, landscape and atmosphere.

Hello Aires,

By building castle on the top of the hill they can control the surroundings well!
And the enemies would get a hard time attacking uphill...
You capture the place well, showing the details in the structure well and the composition has a great 3D feeling!
