Photographer's Note
3 photos today. Kok Gumbaz mosque in late November with a small autumn coloured tree in front. Completed in 1437 by Ulughbek in honour of his father Shah Rukh, who was Timur's son. The name of the mosque means Blue Dome. This is Timur(Tamerlane)'s home town. Realtively few people travel to Uzbekistan, even fewer go to Shakhrisabz (means Green town in Tajik language). It's not a spectacular place, but only 1.5 hour south of Samarkand, it is easy to visit. The WS photo 1 shows better the autumn colour in town, #2 shows this building from far and above, with Timur.
UPDATE January 2007: It seems I have places Shakhrisabz in the wrong province, I hope it's correct now.

Bonjour Tan,
c'est très joli et très coloré. Et puis les coulerus de l'automne sont aussi discrètement présentes.
Jolie esthétique avec ce ciel bien bleu.
Regards.
Daniel.

Not too much time to TE this busy days but I´ve seen this one of you, another hommage to the sky, you are always so lucky at this point. Hi Tan.
Nice composition with nice light and colour. Also we have a nice architecture where the light is reflected. And that's is nice in the photo. That reflections, with the light and the sky, add more interest to the picture.
Regards.

Hi Tan
I like the symmetry of the 3 domes, & tight framing, but it has a slight yellow green color cast on my monitor, in the sky at top left. Good work overall.

Merhaba Captain,
This is a place I've always been dreaming about, not that I'm a big islamic believer, but I value all religions for their participation in the architecture of the cities, we can see a luminous illustration of it here, nice you've been able to visit some "out of the main track" places and a superb result, the rendering and glowing of these fine green domes is splendid, and all the building is real fine art, I really enjoy this one !
Have a nice week end,
Jean-Yves

Hi Tan,
You have really been to great places!
This mosque is remarkably beautiful with its turquoise colored domes and you've perfectly framed it against the deep bleu sky. I like the way you've include the trees in the foreground to add a nice contrasting yellow color.
Have a nice Sunday.

Hi Tan.
Samarkand is a place I would dream to visit. I think this city on the silk road is so mithic and fascinating. The sun's reflection on the blue-green domes and on the incredible walls of the mosque is superb. Thanks for sharing !

Salam Tan
Même au Caire ma ville natale il n'existe pas d'aussi belle mosquée.
La composition est très originale, j'ai l'impression de voir une architecture en miniature.
C'est fantastique !
Salam Tan
Even in Cairo my birthplace there does not exist such beautiful mosque. The composition is very original, I have the impression to see an architecture in miniature. It is fantastic!

Sallam.
I love your beautiful photo which very vivid. You could get rid of that black spot on top on the left side. Would be better to burn little on the wall on the left side.By the way my first camera was Minolta X700 and now I have Minolta Dynax 7 and would like to buy a digital minolta SLR with 10 or MP.

Hello Tan, I didn't manage to get to this place when I was in Uz, so thanks for sharing. I think the road was closed to stop potential militants travelling to the capital during the 10 year anniversary of independence. Anyway, you have some fantastically bright colours and the tilework is wonderfully detailed. Looks like I missed a worthwhile place.

Hello Tan,
I have almost the exact photo but mine is bland and boring while yours is magnificient. You were the lucky one this time, it was cloudy when I visited, but nevertheless your photo is a gem, letting the shapes, details and colours speak for themselves.
Thanks and best regards,
Chris
