One year ago a very nice afternoon, but the temperatures were very low, you can see the little bit ice on the canal water, the reflections are not the best through the ice. This is not the first picture that I took of the small Parma bridge to Sluis in the Netherlands, on 500 metres of the Belgian borders.
In my gallery of TE can find other pictures of the area.
The bridge becomes a lot of used through photographers to take pictures to wedding couples.

History:
A last attempt to connect Bruges with the sea was done by Napoleon. He dropped in 1812-1814 Spanish prisoner of war by the canal between Bruges and Sluis (Damse sailing) graves. The aim was to establish a link with the Westerschelde near Breskens. Napoleon's loss in the war, the diggers are not further come beyond Hoeke a small village against the Netherland border.
Only in 1858 the last piece was completed to Sluis. The channel is now a major tourist attraction for Sluis.
Charles the Bold married Margaret of York in Damme. His father, Philip the Good of Burgundy, Sluis chose his marriage to Isabella of Portugal. Each part. 'Johnny van Sluis' would have avoided according to legend, the city was occupied by the Spaniards
