Apocalypse, a photo from Kriva Palanka, East

Photographer's Note

This is a fresco from the cope of the Osogovo Monastery. The fresco is an illustration to the Apocalypse (the Revelation of John) from the New Testament. Though the frescoes have been repainted in the last century, they follow a millennium old traditions in visual presentation of the Scriptures.

The central figure is Christ in the circle. Next to him is St.John, who wrote down the Revelation. The inscriptions on the circle says: "Apocalypse or Revelation. I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end" (Alpha is the first letter and Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet). Then beneath the circle follow scenes from the different chapters of the Revelation.

Beyond the arches are other illustrations - mainly to the New testament.

I like the colour reproduction, good clarity!
Many interesting stories has been told with amazing details...
The framing is well done, maybe the circle upper right should be left uncut but no big deal!

Hello Anton,I remembered your shot of the monastery, so thanks for taking us inside to show us this magnificent ceiling.The colours are outstanding, and the details are so sharp.
I like your composition with the circular decoration to the top of the shot.
These painted ceilings never fail to amaze me; how people could set about making these wonderful pieces of art.

This is a lovely kalleidescope of colours, and the detrail you've captured of the fresco is superb. Your composition and POV is good, and I like the bold, circular section (surrounded by brown border) which is positioned off centre. Very well captured.
