Photographer's Note

Sousse was funded by the Phoenicians (as Hadrumetum) and was flourishing under the domination of Rome, Byzantium and the Arabs. It is now very important Tunisian harbour as well as a centre of the olive cultivation region.

The old town is situated on a slightly sloping terrain and is surrounded by a thick curtain strengthened by numerous watch-towers.
