Photographer's Note
This girl I met in the middle of nowhere in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest accompanied by her mother and two other women. Beautiful people. Some days later I saw a poster in a local village encouraging school girls to report sexual misuse and violence. The poster was openly talking about girls having problems to attend school, fearing they would become a victim of violence and infected by AIDS. UNESCO runs a lot of programs to educate women to fight against violence by reporting it to authorities as well as to attend women's groups led by UNESCO facilitators and to learn how to react and how to overcome the fear. Conditions just hard to imagine to anyone from the more developed World.

I think it's a nice picture, but calling it 'African innocence' is (perhaps) naive. Uganda is a country in which children have been misused as either child soldiers or (sex) slaves by various military groups for decades. It will be hard to still find an innocent child in Uganda, even in the South.

ahoj michael,
yes, the title is a sort of "a bit too much" but provided we forget about it, this portrait is awesome - seriousness of the eyes clearly indicate that the "black continent" is the games parks maybe in 2% and the remaining 98% is the seriousness of the "real", tough life...
i personaly dislike the discussions about helping out or not, or in principle - about the "vanilla faces" interfeering with the problems of that "shackled" continent, but what i love is the profound culture, some different sort of - all right - innocence...but i'd never see this image through the lenses of child soldiers or sex slaves...no...
best wishes, j.

Hola Michael..this is certainly a very strong portrait...full of expression and drama. The positioning and crop are just outstanding.
Technically could not be better...those colours...that detail...
Congratulations !

Hi Michael,
Beautiful shot! It appeals to the put off center composition to me, the blur background, the intense look of the girl. Truly much beautiful one! The clearness is absolutely perfect. According to me you have removed from your equipment the maximum.
Good note!
My compliments.
Regards
Mario
