Photographer's Note

A unique mountainous village (aul)Xinaliq with unique society (about 2 thousands people) speaking their own language - Ketshmitsi (caucasian language, a little bit similar to one of the dialect spoken in Dagestan), not used anywhere except Xinaliq. I was told that during the soviet times people from Xinaliq were the best to be used as spies since there was no chance to recognize their language. It is told that the dwellers of Xinaliq were the descendants of the Ancient Caucasian Albanians. The name of the village derives from "henna" (in Azeri "xina" - place where henna is growing). Xinaliq is beautifully situated on a 2300 m. mountain, unfortunately it is not easy to get to the village, the mountain road is often unaccessible especially in winter and spring and there is no public transport. You have to hire a good driver (e.g from Quba) with e.g "uazik", who will agree to take you there (a regular taxi is not able to get there). I know a very good driver so if somebody is really interested to go there please let me know.

P.S. "Made in China" makes Xinaliq more international:)
