‘Kompong Phluk - Houses on Tonlé Sap Lake’

The best thing about the trip to Kompong Phluk was the village itself.
From there it was also possible to go to the Tonlé Sap Lake, which had shrunk in the dry season to about one-tenth of its surface in the wet season. Also in the lake you will find wooden buildings, or the so-called floating houses.

Not only did I find them less beautiful, but it was also late in the day and there was clearly less light. So my pictures aren’t the best. Nevertheless, I like to show you some of these buildings that are scattered around the lake.
Actually, the intention of this trip was to see the sunset on the lake, which was not really special, I thought.

The Tonlé Sap Lake is a very rich fishing ground and fishing is the main livelihood of the many Cambodians who live on and around the lake.
In some places you can see bamboo rising above the surface of the water. These are the places with a fish trap in the water. The trap is anchored to the lake bottom with poles or anchors and held in position.
The floating building we were able to visit was actually a restaurant with some simple dishes.

In Kompong Phluk itself I did not see any shops that try to tempt tourists. People want to get you to such a restaurant on the lake. From Kompong Phluk you first go to a small river outside the village from where the boat trip continues to the lake.
