Photographer's Note

Incense and candle sales are a good profit center for churches and temples worldwide. Even better if you roll your own. These ladies are in a room off the main courtyard of Guiyang's major temple, they are hand rolling incense sticks for sale in the temple. They have face masks due to the fine dust, but it was the toilet paper up the woman's nose that caught my eye. (the masks are lowered at the moment because someone just brought tea)

With the relaxation in the Communist Party's grip on everyday life, Chinese temples are once again vibrant, busy places that are great for people watching.

I like this shot Ian, it is a good capture of everyday life for me. It is interesting how the red from the incense seems to have stained a few part of the wall. It looks as though the flash was used here, and perhaps the lighting is not super soft, but the main elements all work well in this one.

Interesting shot and humoristic too. It's a bright view on a every day life, the kind of shots I would like to be able to shoot.

A very good shot with two rather interesting women wearing unusual clothes. I suppose making incense is dusty work. I like the small details such as the window shapes and the Chinese bag at the left.
