Guyuan is a growing city in southern Ningxia Ningxia is China's autonomous muslim region in the north west. It lies roughly between Inner Mongolia and Gansu on the edge of the Gobi desert.

Guyuan makes an excellent base to visit the ancient buddhist grottoes of Xumi Shan.

This picture is a portrait of a man we met in the square in front of the local museum. Sadly too late to visit the museum proper, we shared a smoke instead.

Yes, I can see you. So I also have a lot of very interesting portraits from China. But when I see the old Chinese people I think about their young years. Perhaps he also was an hunweibin in 1960th. Anyway , excellent portrait, perfect technical quality!

Ahh this portrait's a really cracker, I love it. This man is a real character and you've captured it beautifully. All those lines on his face and the wry grin, crouched over the lighter for his ciggie. Excellent depth, colours and skintones. Congratulations.

Hey Benny

I see your point. Add smoke, a spliff instead of a cigarette and some dreads and have the album cover of the album alluded to it in your title.

Strangely, I thought, when I saw the thumbnail, that it was a Chinese Lou Reed. The hat makes the guy look slightly camp! Walk on the wild side, or maybe some kinky reggae?!

I like these Chinese portraits in your gallery. They are well taken shots. Keep stirring it up.
