Photographer's Note

The Chinese New Year is called Spring festival, which is the most important festival for the Chinese people and it is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West, but it starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full Moon after 15 days. All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems for about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees.

The New Year's Eve and New year's Day celebrations were strictly family affairs. All the members of the family would gather for the important family meal on the evening of the New Year' Eve.

Here is the Qianmen area, located in the centre of Beijing and, as such a very famous historical district, always bustles with great noise and activity, but on the New Year's Eve, it has become quiet and lonely. seldom was it!
