Photographer's Note
this is the night market in jiayuguan. like many of the towns we encountered on the silk road, jiayuaguan's market goes on every evening. there are vendors selling all kinds of kebabs and freshly cooked food.
the markets tend to be lively until all hours of the night. you can sit and stuff yourself in the simmering heat.
with this photo, i wanted to capture some of the activity of the evening, the heat, and the sort of grainyness that you feel when you are there. the food is greasy and hot, and you are tired and full, but it's delicious nonetheless.

graininess is fine but i think you may have gotten a bit of camera shake...
if your cam has an ASA chage menu use it and underexpose further, say 0.7-1.0 stop, to get a higher hand held shutter speed or prop the camera against something...the subsequent processing to restore a neutral gamma will introduce the grain you seek..noise as i am told it is called
atmospherically...it reminds me of a night in luoyang at the peony festival market places...all dim lights, proper chinese cooking smells, and wonderful people.
