Photographer's Note

This photo was taken from inside the 'Y' shaped terminal building of Hong Kong Airport and looks southwards towards Lantau Island and the new city of Tung Chung.

"Tung Chung is a city that has been planned, designed and built in less than a decade. The first phase of development was finished in 1997 with the completion of a public housing development. By 1999, the population was estimated to be 15,000. In ten years the population is expected to be 320,000."

Considering that Hong Kong's previous airport was a runway built in the harbour, the new airport is incredibly spacious. For an aerial view of the airports's 1,248-hectare platform, see my previous shot.

On the left of the photo you can see several residential blocks in the background and at the base of them is the school that I pictured in my "No !! YOU go and get the ball" shot.
